Brithai/MMA

What is Brithai?

Brithai is a concept art.  Founded in the UK by Master Griffin of the BNMAA.  Yong Gi Do are now teaching Brithai as an art separate to or running along side its teachings of Tang Soo Do.  Brithai is not bound by a rigid syllabus at its higher levels and focuses on the application of techniques and knowledge based on the individuals’ ability and their art.  Yong Gi Do Brithai is a freestyle art which emphasizes fitness training, different methods of fighting and incorporates take-downs and groundwork.  All techniques will be assessed by application to realistic scenarios.  Students will be expected to do what works for them and not what works for others.

MMA

Mixed Martial Arts represents the new breed of martial arts and is currently the world’s fastest growing sport.  MMA combines techniques from across a range of martial art disciplines; Karate, Kung Fu, Boxing, Muay Thai, Jujitsu, grappling, Judo, wrestling, aikido – plus many more.

Yong Gi Do now offers MMA classes for ages 14+ years.  Various levels of contact are taught in a safe learning environment.  Classes are open to both male and female with access to competition or just as a method of improving fitness, martial art ability or confidence.  The MMA programme creates the best possible fighter offering all round fitness and general grounding in martial arts.

Be part of the worldwide phenomena that is MMA!!!

TSD Students

Existing TSD students (who train in Brithai class) of 4th Gup (green belt) and above will begin training as a 4th Gup Brithai student in acknowledgement of their basic knowledge, this includes Dan grades. All students 5th Gup and under will be assessed and assigned a grade most appropriate to level of skill.  Students may grade in Brithai and TSD at the same time if they train in both arts, this means that consistent training in both arts may well result in a double Dan grade (black belt).  Some students may wish to train in Brithai and never grade in it and this is perfectly acceptable.  TSD students will need to add an additional £5:00 to their current annual membership/Insurance fee, which is a discounted fee based on existing TSD membership.  The uniform for Brithai is black trousers and black T-shirt (printed) or black suit (printed).  They will be available for order shortly from your chief instructor.

Grading system

The system has 10 grades beginning with 10th working through to the black belt, with a comprehensive assessment of black belt grades.  Dan grades are based on application of techniques and time served.  Gradings will be held in the same month as the TSD gradings, in some cases it will be at the same time.
