The cadet class was set up in 2007 to enable the smooth transition for the little lions to main class.  The cadet class is held at the same time as main class at the opposite end of the hall to allow the cadets to follow their own structured program that mirrors the training of the main class but in a child friendly fun based way.  The line-up and warm-up at the beginning of class is done as one main group with the cadets lined up behind the older students, this enables the cadets to become familiar with the older students and not feel intimidated or ill at ease with their fellow students.  At the finish of the warm up the cadets will be asked to regroup at the opposite end of the hall to start their training.

Your child does not have to come through the little lions program to join the cadet class, if you child is aged between four and seven years they will automatically start in the cadet group.

Yong Gi Do always has and always will treat each and every student as an individual that learns and gains knowledge at their own pace, with this in mind if the cadet reaches a standard that is required to join the main class before they reach the age of seven they would (with your permission) be given the opportunity to join the main class for some of the class and decrease the time they spend in the cadet group.  As with all students the individual would be monitored in the main class to ensure they are happy and adjusting well.

The aim of Cadet Lions is to build the child’s self esteem so they feel confident enough to deal with any situation.  The cadets are taught how to deal with and break free from grabs, attacks and bullying. Coupled with lots of fun and games their fitness level is also improved.  Discipline is also one of the main lessons taught so the child can develop respect and become a well grounded citizen and individual.
